Back in June I posted a piece about the Vatican's million dollar commercial agreement with a U.S. adult stem cell company. In case you don't want to read the link I provided above, the Vatican signed a $1 million agreement with NeoStem, which will further adult stem cell research, as well as provide several Vatican-sponsored conferences over the cultural impact of stem cell research.
Well, according to the Catholic News Agency, the endeavor is in 'full swing'.
This marks an important investment by the Catholic Church. The Church isn't just a body of Truth and Teaching, but a body of action! The Catholic Church is willing to put its money where its mouth is. We don't just believe that adult stem cell research is ethical (and science has already proven that it's more successful), but we're willing to help fund it.
The conference mentioned earlier, titled "Adult Stem Cells: Science and the Future of Man and Culture", is set for November 9-11 of this year (2011). There's a Vatican-hosted website that you have to visit that provides information on the conference- Adult Stem Cell Conference. Not only does it provide information on the conference, but it also provides evidence of the Vatican's recent attempts to clean up and modernize their technology/websites.
The conference will cover three topics:
1. Clinical applications of adult stem cell science
2. Ethical considerations of regenerative medicine
3.Cultural implications of regenerative medicine including its social and cultural impact and education
