Is the Catholic Church the Whore of Babylon? Part 2 of 5

In the last post, I (hopefully) cleared up the definition of what/who the antichrist is. I also (hopefully) showed how it doesn't make much sense that the Pope could be the antichrist, at least according to the Scriptural definition of the antichrist.

Now, I'll look at the first 4 commonly cited verses that are used as "evidence" that the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon and the Pope is the antichrist. In some cases, I have commented within the text itself in bold redFor reference's sake, here is the website that I am getting them from. Fair warning, this post is pretty long (when you read it, you might want to read one section at a time, and then come back later and read another, etc.)

Also, I believe that this entire discussion shows the importance and beauty of the Catholic Church. "So why is the Bride [the Catholic Church] maligned as the Whore? Jesus himself answered the question: 'If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household' (Matt. 10:25). 'If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world... the world hates you' (John 15:18-19)." From Catholic Answers

Is the Catholic Church the Whore of Babylon? Part 1 of 5

It's one of the most common ideas among Fundamentalists, that the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon (Revelation 17-18) and the Pope is the Antichrist. The "arguments" and "evidence" used in support of such an idea is often ridiculous and usually asinine. Nevertheless, Catholics need to be aware of what is being said and why it is, in fact, ridiculous.
