One of my Vice-Presidents for the Catholic Student Association at my college is over at World Youth Day. Stephanie Prisland is blogging about her experience:
August 15, 2011: The long and treacherous road
Today was an early start. I was going to go down to the Grotto one last time before we left, but my ankle was starting to give me some problems. So we were on the bus by 8am with a predicted ride of no more than 8 hours….it took 11.
It was a great bonding experience to get to know all the girls better! They all truly have warm hearts and are bless with God’s grace! We prayed and sang for God on the way to Spain.
We took the bus with another group from the U.S., but they generally spoke Spanish. When we decided to pray a rosary with the entire group, we did about half in English and half in Spanish. That’s the great thing about being Catholic: no matter where you go in the world, you can always follow along this what is being said. Even if you’ve never heard the language before in your life, you are able to pray the same thing. I love it!
When we finally got to Madrid, we got our rooms, and just kind of called it quits for the day. We all got some food and headed off to bed. But the devil was trying to creep into my pilgrimage by way of a sprained ankle. By the time that dinner was over, I could hardly walk from the amount of pain I was in. But I am not going to give in. I don’t care how much strength it takes me to get where I need to go during this trip. I’m not going to lounge around waiting for my foot to get better. God please remove this devil from within me.
