This wouldn't be a Catholic blog if I didn't at least comment on the Immaculate Conception on this, the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.
It's important to view the Immaculate Conception within the lens of Advent. As we look forward to the celebration of the first coming of Christ and wait for the second coming of Christ, we get a glimpse of what our life will be like in Heaven. We see in Mary what it means to be 'full of grace', what it means to be totally in the grace of G-d in communion with him. While the Orthodox Church does not recognize the Immaculate Conception (only because they do not recognize Original Sin... but that's a different post), they do recognize that from the moment of conception, Mary was not cut off from G-d like the rest of humanity from the time of our own conceptions. So as we look forward to Christ's return we should also look forward to being in complete communion with Him, and strive everyday to be 'full of grace'.
Here is a past post on the Immaculate Conception (apologetic and explanation).
Here is the Holy Father's Angelus Address from today (on the Immaculate Conception).
