Some people aren't happy about this new translation (let's just call them the National Catholic Reporter people and readers. Or the Reporters). They somehow think that this is a destroying of Vatican II and what it stood for. Again showing their ignorance, one person actually stated that if they were forced to receive Communion on the Tongue, they would leave the Catholic Church (obviously they don't know what the Eucharist really is). The new translations are just that, new translations. There are no changes to actions, participation, or anything else besides words.
One more thing needs to be pointed out to the Reporters: These are much more faithful translations. It doesn't make sense to me how anyone could get angry about these new translations. I've read through them on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop's website. There are some tough 8th grade words there, like consubstantial (a word that every Confirmed Catholic should have learned in Catechism class). Here's the deal: The fact that it is a truer translation of the Roman Missal, which is what Vatican II was trying to achieve, means that it is in the Spirit of Vatican II to make a more accurate translation. There are no hard words there. It's funny, but the Reporters (who are all for "change") are afraid of change (real, legitimate change that is).
All I can really say is this... get over it. Catholicism wins again.
